Anyone remember that Steph Curry has a little brother?
Well, only a few weeks after watching his brother hoist the Larry O’Brien to compliment the MVP Trophy he was given not too long before that, Seth Curry is making a splash of his own.
For those of you who forgot that Steph even had a brother, here’s a quick catch up: after a year at Liberty, Curry rode out the rest of his collegiate career with the Duke Blue Devils. Despite playing for one of the better college basketball programs out there, Curry went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft and ended up on the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA Developmental League.
After hopping around the D-League and short, unfruitful stints with the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers, the younger Curry has found himself here on the New Orleans Pelicans Summer League squad playing for a team running the offensive style of former assistant coach of his brother on the Golden State Warriors, Alvin Gentry.
I guess Gentry’s game plan just has a way of making the Curry’s really show their stripes out on the basketball court.
Lil’ Curry exploded for 30 points in the Pels opening matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks, leading his team to a decisive 101-89 victory.
“I’m a combo guard who can handle the ball, make plays, and obviously spread the court,” said Curry after his game-high 30-point performance. “It’s kind of my focus to stay ready and stay in shape and be able to play two positions.”
The younger Curry actually had a conversation with Steph beforehand about Gentry’s style and what to expect. I guess it’s nice having the reigning MVP as your brother.
“Just watching it up close, I think it fits my style of play,” said Curry. “I’m sure I can go to [Steph] for any questions I want.”
Another 25 on Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks, and suddenly Curry has established himself as the hot topic of the 2015 NBA Summer League.
A lot of people said that he had a future beyond the D-League, maybe he was just waiting for a coach like Gentry.
