After practically having the Lombardi Trophy ripped out of their hands by Malcolm Butler and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, the Seattle Seahawks shook off the tough loss and immediately began looking towards Super Bowl 50. Although it may be a little early to say for sure, the Seahawks are already the favorites to win the big game this coming season.
This shouldn’t be a big surprise to you if you’ve been keeping up with the NFL offseason so far. The Seahawks have made some huge moves this offseason to ensure they don’t fall off after losing the Super Bowl:
For starters, the Seahawks rocked the league by acquiring the second best tight end in the NFL from the New Orleans Saints. In the biggest blockbuster trade of the offseason, the Seahawks sent center Max Unger and their 1st round pick to the Saints for Jimmy Graham and a 4th round selection.
Graham gives the Hawks exactly what they need, a big body to throw to in the red zone. With someone like Graham to go up and fight for a jump ball, Russell Wilson won’t have to worry about Butler on the goal line anymore.
The Seahawks also did a fantastic job retaining the talent already on their roster. Despite rumors of his retirement or uncertain future with the organization that have swirled around the past two years, Marshawn Lynch will be sticking around for at least another season or two.
Keeping Lynch is arguably the best move the Seahawks made this offseason. Lynch has been one of the most productive backs in the NFL since his first full season in Seattle, including 1,306 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2014; and he has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down over the past few seasons.
The rest of the team looks about the same as well. The Seahawks only notable free agency loss was cornerback Byron Maxwell; however, with the depth and talent that the team has in the secondary, Maxwell really won’t be missed.
The Seahawks have made now made two consecutive Super Bowl appearances including a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. With no real losses and the addition of Jimmy Graham, the Seahawks should have no problem making it three in a row come next February.
